Victoria Falls
The Smoke That Thunders

Shared by Zambia and Zimbabwe, Victoria Falls (Mosi-oa-Tunya, "the smoke that thunders") is one of the largest waterfalls in the world.
The Zambezi River drops into a narrow gorge along a front of roughly 1.7 kilometres, throwing up spray that can be seen from far away. The falls are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the view differs on each side, so many travellers see both.
Activities include helicopter flights, white-water rafting below the falls, sunset cruises on the Zambezi, bridge walks and, in the low-water months, a swim at the edge of the falls from Livingstone Island on the Zambian side.
It is an easy add-on to a Botswana or South Africa safari, and Chobe National Park is within reach for a day trip.
