Zanzibar
Spice Island Beach Escape
A popular add-on to a mainland safari, Zanzibar's white-sand beaches and warm Indian Ocean waters offer a natural way to unwind after days of early-morning game drives.
Zanzibar is a semi-autonomous archipelago off Tanzania's coast, historically a hub of the Indian Ocean spice trade — its UNESCO World Heritage-listed Stone Town retains Swahili, Arab, Persian, Indian and European architectural influences from centuries as a trading port.
Beyond Stone Town, the island's east coast (Paje, Jambiani, Bwejuu) and north coast (Nungwi, Kendwa) offer calm, warm water, coral reefs for snorkeling and diving, and a well-developed range of beach accommodation.
Because Zanzibar is a short flight from both Nairobi and the northern Tanzania safari circuit (Serengeti, Ngorongoro), it's commonly booked as a 3–5 day extension at the end of a safari itinerary.
